Roomate selection is done rather soon actually. When ranking which residence halls you like the most (or least), you fill out a form with questions asking questions such as 'Do you listen to music when you study', 'Do you stay up late?', 'Do you tolerate smoking?', 'How often do you clean?' etc,... I hope this answers your question.
